I purchased this music CD totally by mistake. I am a huge fan of Peter Mayer (”Pete” Mayer)of Minnesota, a wonderfully Conscious singer songwriter under the Blue Boat Label. When I purchased this CD, I was under the false impression that Pete had a new CD out, especially as the title, “Stirrin up the Water” was certainly verbally in line with Pete’s personality expressed in his work. When it arrived, I was confused at the sight of the photo of THIS Pete Mayer; the two have similar faces, but I quickly realized this was not the artist I thought I was getting. I was even more disappointed when I read the subtitle, “Songs of Faith”. While am am an intensely spiritual person, I am very much put off by classically institutionalized religious individuals and dogmatic organizations. I was totally surprised by my innate reaction, which was to open the CD and explore it despite my usual cautious suspicions.
To my surprise, I enjoyed the CD very much. Despite my tendency to reject out of hand songs that have lines that begin with “Oh Lord”, this artist’s work is uplifting, inspiring, and has very pleasing melodies. Most of the lyrics are less overtly “religious” that at first glance. One can’t help but to jog a little more joyously or rollerblade with a bit more energy when this CD is on the headset.

Placing this CD in my computer and listening brought me an instant sense of comfort. Beautiful melodies and lyrics abound in this quiet CD of words, guitar, violin and percussion. Fans of the more acoustic work of Chris Rice and Bebo Norman will love this music.
